DECRIMNOW

DECRIMNOW is a campaign and movement to decriminalize sex work and to promote the well-being and safety of people in the sex trade. The campaign was created by the Sex Worker Advocates Coalition, which DC Chapter joined in 2017. As a part of this work, last year BYP100’s D.C. Chapter collaborated to:

• Launched the campaign website and a canvassing program

• Co-hosted an ANC Sex Work Decriminalization Training

• Hosted various political education events

• Co-organized the Sex Workers Rise Up for Safety rally

• Co-hosted the first ever Sex Workers’ Lobby Day on the hill

• Co-hosted the End Violence Against Sex Workers Carnival

• Organized a pop-up gallery featuring art by sex workers

MELANATION​

Launched in 2017, MelaNation is our D.C. Chapter’s quarterly art zine (short for “magazine”) that aims to uplift the perspectives of local Black artists and writers, as well as engage Black folks in the D.C. area with political education. MelaNation has a complementary blog, as well as workshops. Last year, through MelaNation, the D.C. Chapter hosted a release party for their third issue, collaborated with Fantom Comics for a Sip N’ Create event, and did a reading at OutWrite — an annual literary festival uplifting work by people who are LGBTQIA+. 28 DAYS OF BLACK LOVE​

In 2018, our D.C. Chapter created #28DaysofBlackLove, a digital campaign honoring Black love for Black History Month. The campaign, which was inspired by a video series by artist and organizer, JeNae’ Taylor, is a celebration of the countless kinds of love that Black people enjoy and share each day. Each week is dedicated to a particular kind of love — from healing love, to sexy love, to liberating love. The campaign is now an annual staple, which recurred this past February.
